De Mix Nederland

Vier de Beeldmix

Look on Me Tenderly

We move within from the exterior to return to the exterior from within.
The picture is an approximation; never absolute, clarifying our settled turbidity, blurring the all too sharp lines. It’s how we make memories.
The forgotten is remembered: exposed to the moment, we coalesce with our need for touch. The resulting reflections are carried in our heart.
Stairs have to be climbed for sight of the horizon of the endless. Follow the rhythm of your breath and you will never be breathless. Peace rages at maximum here.
The generations before us could not take the time so a photographer did. It’s how photography started. House and home. Man and dog. Ponytails in the wind, because the cyclists have that wind behind them. Sails fill and cut the air in two: the space being annexed, the space that has been annexed. The landscape is empty, perfect happiness screaming to be filled with pictures of passers-by and visitors, day-dreamers and doers.
The camera is both arrow and bow. And what we are celebrating is a time machine reminding us of the eyes of mothers, fathers’ laughter, blessed triviality.
Let your pride be seen in all its ebullience, wear a dress or a top hat. Time makes us all alike, what remains is a darkroom in which a little light searches for tomorrow.

‘Vier de Beeldmix, Nederlandse fotografen van vroeger en nu is an initiative of Stichting Beeldmix together with Museum Hilversum, NS and ProRail. This overview exhibition is the culmination of De Mix Nederland, a series of twelve exhibitions that were shown at various locations in the Netherlands. Vier de Beeldmix celebrates the richness of Dutch photography. At each location, a different contemporary Dutch photographer took inspiration from a historical photo collection. The exhibition ‘Vier de Beeldmix’ consists of two parts in Hilversum. In addition to this outdoor exhibition in front of station Hilversum railway station, we will show the overview exhibition at Museum Hilversum at Kerkbrink 6.
